Camera is the heartwarming story of loss, hope, and healing, following OSCAR, a 9-year-old boy who cannot speak — who has just moved with his widowed mom to a struggling fishing town.  Picked on and bullied, nobody realizes that Oscar sees great beauty where others only see despair. Nobody, that is, until a broken film camera brings him together with ERIC (Beau Bridges), an eccentric old repairman, and an unlikely friendship develops. Under Eric’s mentorship, Oscar finds his voice through photography, and in doing so, heals a wounded community.

I Am My Music shifts the focus away from the creation of music to the experience of listening to it, and to the formats that have shaped and ultimately defined that experience. From vinyl, cassette tape, CD, and MP3, each generation has had a piece of musical media to call its own– a way of listening that determines not only how and where we listen, but also the manner in which we collect, store, and share the music we love.

If the vocal track is the heart of a song, the rhythm track––the beat––is its body. It’s the sonic element that taps into the most primal part of us and makes us want to move. Four on The Floor breaks the beat down, and examines the endless experimentation that has taken place at its core, the very bedrock of all music. Charts the progression of the beat from drum and bass to beatbox and beyond––from Little Richard and James Brown to disco and EDM.

City Lights - Charlie Chaplin Film Screening

City Lights, the most cherished film by Charlie Chaplin, is also his ultimate Little Tramp chronicle. The writer-director-star achieved new levels of grace, in both physical comedy and dramatic poignancy, with this silent tale of a lovable vagrant falling for a young blind woman who sells flowers on the street (a magical Virginia Cherrill) and mistakes him for a millionaire. Though this Depression-era smash was made after the advent of sound, Chaplin remained steadfast in his love for the expressive beauty of the pre-talkie form. The result was the epitome of his art and the crowning achievement of silent comedy.

This film will be screened in the Madorsky Theater at 6pm on October 19th. Sons of the Desert: Stanley (Stan Laurel) and Ollie (Oliver Hardy) want to attend the yearly convention of the Sons of the Desert, a fraternal group to which they belong. When Ollie's wife, Lollie (Mae Busch), objects, he feigns sickness, and Stanley gets a doctor to prescribe a fake trip to Hawaii. After Stanley and Ollie revel with the Sons of the Desert, they return home to find out the ship they were supposedly on has sunk in a typhoon, and they're forced to cover their tracks.

Way Out West: A prospector enlists Stan (Stan Laurel) and Ollie (Oliver Hardy) to deliver the deed to a goldmine to his daughter Mary (Rosina Lawrence) in Brushwood Gulch. When they arrive in the small village and enter the local saloon, Mary's sinister guardian (Sharon Lynne) pretends to be Mary, thus fooling the hapless duo into handing over the deed. The Kid - Charlie Chaplin Film Screening

  • Southeast Museum of Photography (map)

Charlie Chaplin was already an international star when he decided to break out of the short-film format and make his first full-length feature. The Kid doesn’t merely show Chaplin at a turning point, when he proved that he was a serious film director—it remains an expressive masterwork of silent cinema. In it, he stars as his lovable Tramp character, this time raising an orphan (a remarkable young Jackie Coogan) he has rescued from the streets. Chaplin and Coogan make a miraculous pair in this nimble marriage of sentiment and slapstick, a film that is, as its opening title card states, “a picture with a smile—and perhaps, a tear.”

This film will be screened in the Madorsky Theater at 6pm on September 14th. To secure your seat, please register via Eventbrite here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-kid-charlie-chaplin-film-screening-tickets-706227915707?aff=oddtdtcreator
