Christian Weber : Explosions

November 7, 2024 - January 7, 2025

The Southeast Museum of Photography is pleased to present an ‘explosive’ series of works by artist Christian Weber. The exhibition title is taken from his monograph of the same name (published by Kerber Verlag in 2014) and consists of multiple high-speed images of fireballs and explosives ignited in mid-air. Each resulting shape is unique: some resemble nebula while others evoke the twisting structures of DNA.

Time is an interesting concept. It has been defined as the measured period during which an action, process, or condition exists. It has also been defined as a nonspatial continuum, measured in terms of events, each succeeding one another from the past through thepresent to the future.

Awarded annually, the Gary R. Libby Curatorial Scholarship enables students to learn about the various aspects of producing an exhibition, allowing for a sequence of decision-making from curatorial concept to completion. Over the course of the semester, students meet with Southeast Museum of Photography staff who assist the process and provide guidance. This exhibition is the culmination of this process from start to finish.

We Are Art Vol 2: Potent Narratives, Potent People

February 1, 2025 - April 16, 2025

Photographers and curators James and LaToya Carey capture the essence of Central Florida through the lives and stories of its people. Their work vividly portrays the Black experience, skillfully using the interplay of light and shadow to reveal its beauty. Each thoughtfully crafted narrative enriches the exhibit, celebrating every individual as a masterpiece in their own right.

Patterns of Rupture

Matt Kushan, Unum Babar and Sayera Anwar

An expat artist is always in the state of conundrum – they are never sure whether their gaze is that of a seasoned “local” or one of an outsider at the risk of exoticizing the subject. This applies to both homes, old and new, the displaced artist never sure where the state of belonging exists anymore, where the connection is stronger, and what is actually “home”.

This exhibition attempts to bring together three artists at various stages of expatriation between Pakistan and the US. They are tied together through a web of relationships – both personal and professional – one of the overlaps being their interest in the patterns that arise through their observation of a culture and land, either adopted or born into. Patterns of pop culture, ornamentation, ritual, the every day, urban life and those that arise from the repetition of coming home knowing that a rupture in the relationship is not far in the future.

Opening Exhibition: March 7, 6 p.m.

This profound solo exhibition emerges from the collaboration between Jetshri Bhadviya, Madhurima Ganguly, Lisa Caliendo, and Bhadviya’s students at DSC. Together, they unravel the complex intersections of identity, memory, pain, and cultural displacement, offering a richly textured experience that bridges personal and collective narratives.
