MUSEUM ASSISTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR DSC STUDENTS

The Southeast Museum of Photography seeks professional and friendly candidates for our Museum Assistant work-study program at Daytona State College. This is a fantastic opportunity for students of ANY major.

Along with supervising the gallery and reception areas, Museum Assistants have the opportunity to work behind the scenes, learning about the preparation and installation of photography exhibitions.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Staff in the following areas as needed: daily supervision of gallery and reception area, maintaining Museum gift shop, greeting and offering additional support for all guests in the Museum, working Museum events (receptions, lectures, etc.), preparation and installation of photographs for exhibit (training is provided to ensure proper art handling), research and writing pertaining to topics of Museum interest, and assist on occasional photography and videography shoots for Museum marketing.

  • Organize, upkeep, and maintain areas of responsibility according to museum procedures.

  • Continuously monitor the Museum for security from theft, misuse, and vandalism.

  • Other duties relevant to the job as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dependable, responsible, punctual, and neat in appearance.

  • Ability to follow given instructions/directions.

  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and remain up-to-date/knowledgeable of Museum exhibitions and programs.

  • Ability to work both independently without direct supervision, and as part of a small group or team.

  • Demonstrate strong skills in communication, customer service, and critical thinking.
