TIMELESS TRADITIONS

With Satomi Hirano

Saturday, April 11, 2 - 3:30 pm

Satomi Hirano's mastery of classical Japanese dance, coupled with her certification in Yamano-style kimono dressing, is helping to revive traditional Japanese culture.

Celebrating Japanese History & Culture

A portion of the program will involve the art of styling and wearing a kimono with audience participation encouraged. Satomi Hirano will introduce the basics of Kitsuke, which is the traditional Japanese art of dressing in a kimono. This process involves specific, layered undergarments (juban) and accessories (obi, belts, ties) that create a smooth, tailored look. This demonstration will accompany a discussion about the importance of the fabrics and patterns, as well as how these garments are integrated into contemporary life.
